Thom Yorke and two of the Posies send up “Wonderwall” on CBC

written up for the archive

Thom Yorke played a solo acoustic session for CBC radio's Real Time in Vancouver on 22 March, and Ken Stringfellow of the Posies joined him for a mocking go at Oasis's “Wonderwall”. They gave up after the first chorus, and Yorke agreed on air that it had been abysmal. It's always good to make fun of Oasis, though.3

Radiohead are in western Canada on their North American tour, with Calgary on 21 March and the Rage in Vancouver on 23 March. Yorke came to the studio alone with an acoustic guitar. He played “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” and “Killer Cars”, a B-side of the “High & Dry” / “Planet Telex” single, before the Oasis song. Then Stringfellow and his bandmate Jon Auer backed him on “Blow Out” from Pablo Honey, making their parts up as they went, as the recording's listing tells it.

Between songs Yorke complained of a sore throat, of a goldfish he had not fed, and of a fan who had found his house.
