Radiohead win Ivors for “Paranoid Android” and “Karma Police”
Radiohead won both the Ivor Novello Awards they were shortlisted for at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday afternoon, and, NME reports, were there to collect them. “Paranoid Android” took Best Song Musically And Lyrically and “Karma Police” Best Contemporary Song, both credited to all five members of the band. The Ivors are voted by members of the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers, which NME reckons makes them the songwriting world's Brits.
“Paranoid Android” was one of three songs on the shortlist announced in March, up against two of the biggest pop songs of the year, Robbie Williams's “Angels” and Cornershop's “Brimful Of Asha”.
“Karma Police” beat the Supernaturals' “Smile” and the Verve's “The Drugs Don't Work”, though Richard Ashcroft of the Verve went home with Songwriter of the Year all the same.
