Björk pulls out of Radiohead's April dates in North America

written up for the archive

Björk has pulled out of the nights she was billed to open on Radiohead's North American tour next month, from Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto on 12 April to Radio City Music Hall in New York. NME reports that taking down her stage set and putting up Radiohead's would have left too long a wait between the two. Both camps say the two acts still mean to tour together later with stripped-down shows, though no dates are set.

Björk's people blame production problems, the New York Daily News reported on 3 March. Radiohead will now headline Radio City on 17 and 18 April with a new opener. That opener is Spiritualized, Jason Pierce's band, who were at first only rumoured for a few dates and are now booked to support from the first night.

Colin Greenwood has said they will take six months off before starting on the follow-up to OK Computer, and they have already been looking for somewhere to make it. Phil Selway told the New Zealand Press Association, during the band's visit in late January, that they had driven out from Auckland to see a studio at Karekare Beach, the one Crowded House used for Together Alone. We've been looking at studios to record the next record in, and when we were in Auckland we went out to Karekare to look at one.1
