Thom Yorke records an Earth Summit message for Friends of the Earth

Thom Yorke has recorded a message for Radio Earth Summit, an audio website Friends of the Earth have set up to collect messages from the public before next month's Earth Summit in Johannesburg. Radiohead are backing the campaign with a rare video for “Motion Picture Soundtrack” and an audio stream of the song.

Yorke calls the summit the only chance left to take on the World Trade Organisation's hijacked free-trade agenda. He wants it to tie the environment to poverty and to the gap between rich and poor nations, to make companies answer for the damage they do wherever they set up, and to make wealthy countries face what their over-consumption costs everyone else. Preaching that the gains of growth trickle down to the poor, he says, is no good if your house is being washed away, your child has skin cancer, you can't get clean water and the weather is changing beyond recognition, forever.¹
