Thom Yorke rules out Glastonbury on the band's message board

written up for the archive

Thom Yorke answered fans on Radiohead's message board late on Friday 10 May, and dismissed this year's rumour that the band are the surprise guests at Glastonbury next month. Sorry, we aren't. We never said we would this year. This always happens. It's a compliment that the rumour spreads, but we ain't ain't ain't. Maybe next year.1

He gave more away about the record the band are making, the follow-up to last year's Amnesiac. We are working bloody hard on it now. We are trying to be a bit more focused, less neurotic. It'll be sooner than you think…some old songs may appear.1

The band mean to play new songs for the first time on their short run in Portugal and Spain in July and August, which a spokesperson said in April would be their only shows of 2002. Yorke joked that the set would be almost entirely new, and almost entirely under-rehearsed.
