Radiohead want to play Latin America, Argentine fans are told
A group of Argentine fans asked on Radiohead's official site why the band had never played Latin America, and the reply says the band are desperate to. Fans in Colombia had suspected worries about security, and Argentines guessed the takings would not cover the costs. Neither, the reply says, has anything to do with it.
The band want to do it the right way, with shows open to as many people as possible rather than to the elite in those countries who can pay inflated ticket prices. They are working on it, and it also depends on where their heads are next year.
The Buenos Aires daily Página/12 prints the reply today in its youth supplement, beside Roque Casciero's feature on Thom Yorke, and credits it to Yorke while wondering whether he wrote it himself.
Radiohead's only Latin American shows so far were seven club and theatre dates in Mexico in October 1994, before The Bends came out. They have never played South America.
