Thom Yorke calls Hail to the Thief “OK Computer 2”

written up for the archive

Thom Yorke tells the Dutch magazine OOR that with Hail to the Thief, out on 9 June, Radiohead are a pop band again for the time being, because they needed to be, doing what they are good at. This is 'OK Computer 2'. What we will do from now on, should not be anything like we've done before.1

He is pleased with the album, and the band are enjoying themselves, fresh from their May club tour of the UK and Ireland. But Yorke says they have been here before and are standing still. He rules out going back as well; the band talked it over recently, and there will be no second The Bends. Radiohead will be completely unrecognisable in two years. At least, I hope so. It's the only perspective of the future that I can live with.1
