Billy Corgan says the Pink Floyd tag leaves Radiohead nothing to aim for

Billy Corgan, who led the Smashing Pumpkins, thinks the constant comparison of Radiohead with Pink Floyd does not hold. Told they are already Pink Floyd, he argues, a band retreats into its own vision.
If you're Radiohead and you're told now that you're the Pink Floyd, what else do you have to shoot for?

Bret Begun had asked him, in a Newsweek web exclusive on MSNBC on 13 May, whether any band today is on the path to changing everything. Corgan says no. When Pink Floyd had The Dark Side of the Moon, it showed someone like him that a musician could be himself and still have all the success in the world, and the Beatles, Elvis, U2 and Nirvana each had that moment. He sees no reward in the industry now for anyone who tries.
