Pitchfork names Kid A the best album of 2000 to 2004

Kid A is number one in Pitchfork's Top 100 Albums of 2000-04, published on Monday 7 February. Amanda Petrusich, who wrote the entry, says the record unsettled a good part of Radiohead's own audience but convinced even committed guitar fans that electronic sounds could feel alive. Within months owning it had become a badge of credibility, and five years on it still sounds as right for its moment as it did in 2000.
The albums came a week after Pitchfork's Top 100 Singles of 2000-04, which began on 31 January. “There There” is number 75, and Michael Idov calls it perfect because the drum fill that ends it answers the two guitar stabs before the chorus of “Creep”. “Pyramid Song” is number 15, written up by Drew Daniel, who admits he has never heard a whole Radiohead album; the song got into his Radiohead-free zone regardless.
