Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway rejoin Neil Finn's 7 Worlds Collide

written up for the archive

Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway are among the musicians on a second 7 Worlds Collide, a studio album that Neil Finn of Crowded House is making with all the proceeds going to Oxfam. Both were in Finn's band for the first one, five nights at the St James Theatre in Auckland in April 2001 with Johnny Marr and Eddie Vedder; the live album came out that November, credited to Neil Finn & Friends.

Marr, Lisa Germano and Soul Coughing's bassist Sebastian Steinberg are back as well. Also taking part are Finn's son Liam, the New Zealand songwriters Bic Runga and Don McGlashan, and four members of Wilco: Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche and Pat Sansone.

The recording is at Finn's Roundhead Studios in Auckland over the next few months, with Jim Scott engineering. The album has no title yet, and the hope is to have it out in 2009. Many of the players will also give concerts with him in the first week of January at the Powerstation, where Radiohead played Auckland in June 1994 on The Bends tour.
