Thom Yorke sings over the records at the Amok launch in London
Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich launched Amok, the first Atoms for Peace album, at Oval Space in London on Friday 22 February. Yorke had billed the launch nights as two turntables & a microphone
4, but in London he also sang and played guitar over the records, through songs from Amok and his 2006 solo album The Eraser.
The album is out today on XL. Atoms for Peace are Yorke's band with Godrich, Flea, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco, but the launch nights are billed as Yorke and Godrich alone, with visuals by the artist Tarik Barri. Actress and Throwing Snow were billed to open in London, and Shed and Anstam at Berghain in Berlin on 8 March; the guests for Le Poisson Rouge in New York on 14 March were to be named later. All three nights sold out quickly.
A fan filmed just over half an hour of the London night, and Fact has posted the footage with a 12-song list. Eight songs are from Amok and three from The Eraser, including “Atoms for Peace”, the song the band took its name from.
