Thom Yorke says “Identikit” is one of two unfinished Radiohead tracks

written up for the archive

Thom Yorke told fans on Reddit on the afternoon of 18 February that Radiohead have two unfinished tracks from their time at Jack White's studio, and that neither is ready for release. He and Nigel Godrich were taking questions a week before Atoms for Peace's Amok comes out on XL, and a fan asked when Radiohead would release a single. Yorke typed back that Radiohead had been at White's place and we now have two unfinished tracks, one of which is identikit.1 He liked it there, all red and black and white, and said Radiohead work slower than White, which he called an umderstatement1, typo and all.

The studio is Third Man in Nashville, where White said last July Radiohead had recorded, without him playing on the session or producing it. “Identikit” is no secret to anyone who saw the band last year. They first played it on the opening night of the 2012 North American tour, in Miami on 27 February, and it was played on most nights for the rest of the year.

Radiohead are on a break, and Colin Greenwood said last week they would get back together at the end of the summer. Asked about the band going back into the studio after that, Godrich joked that he likes all 50 of the new radiohead songs2. Yorke said they had not seen each other in a long time and would be in the same room again in April or May, and left it open which band he meant.

Fans also asked after songs that exist only on bootlegs, naming “Big Boots” and “Burn the Witch”. Godrich said everything surfaces in the end, and 'Nude' took 12 years.. ish.4 One of the two promised that “The Present Tense”, which Yorke has played live but never released, will definitely come out.

Making Atoms for Peace after Radiohead, the pair said, is like eating ice cream after a lovely dinner. Yorke very much hopes to work again with Burial and Four Tet, his partners on the “Ego” and “Mirror” single; the three talk about it, though as usual he has to write some words first.

He does not think those words are confessional at all, asked back whether Michael Stipe's are, and called his own stream of consciousness and gibberish, just sounds. By the time the words have stuck, they have just stuck. The glue is set and I can't undo.5
