Jonny Greenwood's There Will Be Blood score to tour the UK live
Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood is to be screened on four UK dates early in 2017, with Jonny Greenwood's score played live by the London Contemporary Orchestra. The 2007 film was the first of Greenwood's scores for Anderson, who has since had him score The Master and Inherent Vice.
It is the orchestra that plays the strings and sings the choir parts on A Moon Shaped Pool, under Hugh Brunt. On the tour it will be 50 players strong, and one of them plays the ondes Martenot, the early electronic keyboard that has become one of Greenwood's signature sounds.
The orchestra has played this score with the film at two London stagings before. The first time was two nights at the Roundhouse in London in August 2014, with Brunt conducting and Greenwood taking the ondes Martenot part himself, and it was the first time the music had been played in time with the picture. The Royal Festival Hall staging followed in August 2015, as part of David Byrne's Meltdown.
