Velvet IndieGround, attacked at a Radiohead event, closes for good
Velvet IndieGround, the Istanbul record shop attacked during Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool listening event last June, has closed for good. Lee Seok-woo, who opened it in 2014, told The Korea Bizwire that money had nothing to do with it.
A group of about 20 men attacked the shop during the event at which record shops around the world played the album. Staff said the attackers objected to music and alcohol during Ramadan, and at least one person was hurt. Lee closed for a while, then reopened, but many of his friends and regular customers stopped coming, and strangers dropped in to talk about the attack.
I couldn't stand how people thought of it as fun gossip, and it continuously reminded me of the terrible experience that still anguishes me.
