Rian Johnson's Knives Out takes Radiohead's title but not the song

Radiohead's “Knives Out” is not in Knives Out, the Rian Johnson murder mystery that premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival tonight. It’s not. I doubt we could afford that,¹ Johnson told the Los Angeles Times with a laugh, adding that anyone humming it when the title comes up costs the film nothing.

The story has nothing to do with the song, which came out on Amnesiac in 2001. Johnson says the phrase had always stuck in his head and seemed a great title for a whodunit. I’m just a massive Radiohead fan, and I love that album and I love that song.¹

Johnson apologised to Yorke, to Nigel Godrich and to the rest of the band. I hope they’re okay with it.¹
