Thom Yorke tells Theresa May to stop the Brexit bus

written up for the archive

Thom Yorke posted a statement to Theresa May on Twitter on the morning of Friday 8 February, as a picture of five short paragraphs. It came on the day a crunch Commons vote on Brexit was reported to be put back to the end of the month, with Britain due to leave the EU on 29 March.

Three of the paragraphs begin “Nobody voted for you to”. One is about the millions of Europeans living in Britain, whose lives, Yorke writes, she has put in question as a bargaining tool. He calls it an action worthy of the early days of the third reich.1

Another turns on her a red bus, read in the press as the one the Leave campaign toured in 2016. Nobody voted for you to drive this red bus over a cliff with the passengers screaming in the back.1 Fear is not a weapon to be used by a UK Prime Minister in the 21st century.1 Set apart beneath it, the last line reads Stop the bus...... now.1
