Phil Selway plans a solo record as Radiohead take time off
Radiohead are taking a little time away this year, Phil Selway told Shaun Keaveny and Matt Everitt on BBC Radio 6 Music on Tuesday 22 January, and he will be making another solo record.
He spends Independent Venue Week (28 January to 3 February) on the road for a documentary. He visits a different venue every day to meet promoters, gig-goers and artists, travelling in a white van with an empty seat beside him so that viewers feel they are coming along.
His own venues growing up in Oxford were the Jericho Tavern and the Zodiac, where he saw Gil Scott-Heron, and Radiohead played only six or seven Oxford shows in their first five years.
The first stop is the Moles in Bath, where Radiohead played just after recording Pablo Honey. They turned up thinking they were pretty special and, Selway says, were appalling. When someone asked their managers who this band were, the managers denied all knowledge, then laid into the band in the dressing room.
