The Smile finished their first North American tour with two nights at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on 21 and 22 December. The second was added in June.

On the Wednesday they played all 13 songs from A Light for Attracting Attention, with “Just Eyes and Mouth” in the encore, 19 songs in about 105 minutes. On the closing night “Teleharmonic” came in, and “Free in the Knowledge” and “Just Eyes and Mouth” dropped out. SPIN's reviewer says the new song starts sparsely, Thom Yorke's clipped vocal over ringing chords, until Jonny Greenwood moves to bass and drives it to its climax. The band have kept writing on the road, the review reports, and go back to recording in the new year.

The Thursday's logged setlist has “We Don't Know What Tomorrow Brings” stopped and started again after trouble with Yorke's keyboards. Robert Stillman, who opened both nights, played saxophone with the band on “Colours Fly” and on the last three songs of the main set. On “Speech Bubbles” Greenwood played piano with one hand and harp with the other, as he had in Portland and San Francisco.

In San Francisco on Sunday 18 December, partway into the unreleased “People on Balconies”, also called “Friend of a Friend”, Yorke lost his place, stopped, and blamed the draft. Somebody left the door open. It's freezing!3 This is the last time we play this venue again.3 Silas Valentino, reviewing the night for SFGATE, took it as a joke, though his paper's headline ran it straight.

“Skrting on the Surface” brought the Shrine to its feet on the closing night.
