Radiohead's Kid A and Amnesiac to score Nosferatu in about 200 cinemas
F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu, the 1922 silent film, premieres with a new soundtrack made from Kid A and Amnesiac at the American Cinematheque's Los Feliz Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday 21 September. From 4 October it goes out in about 200 cinemas, booked only into independent houses and drive-ins.
The film opens Silents Synced, a series that replaces a silent film's score with rock albums. It is the idea of Josh Frank, who runs the Blue Starlite, a small urban drive-in in Austin, Texas. R.E.M. are next, with Buster Keaton's Sherlock Jr. set to Monster and New Adventures in Hi-Fi.
Radiohead had no part in the edit, Boxoffice Pro reports, but they told Frank to go ahead, and he licensed the albums from the labels himself. When I put Radiohead up against 'Nosferatu,' there were many moments throughout where I got goosebumps.
