Rolling Stone ranks Kid A second among the albums of the century
Rolling Stone has put Kid A at number two in its list of the 250 greatest albums of the 21st century so far, published on 10 January. Only Beyoncé's Lemonade is above it, and Frank Ocean's Blonde is third.
The entry, signed A. Greene, argues that the album's 11 tracks, built from sequencers, drum machines, old synthesisers, strings and brass, foresaw the fear, loneliness and dislocation of the years after its release in October 2000. It recalls fans being baffled at first by “Everything in Its Right Place”, “Idioteque” and “The National Anthem”, and many of them later calling it their favourite Radiohead album. It ends on what it calls a near-universal view of the record, as a towering achievement and a warning that went unheeded.
