Jonny Greenwood and Dudu Tassa to play a second Jerusalem concert
Jonny Greenwood and Dudu Tassa will play the Jerusalem International Oud Festival twice. A second concert at the Jerusalem Theatre, at 12:45 p.m. on Friday 6 November, follows their opening night in the same theatre at 9 p.m. on Thursday 5 November.
The Jerusalem Post reports that the artistic director of Confederation House, the festival's home venue and its presenter, added the date because demand for the opener was high and tickets were scarce. The festival's 27th edition runs from 5 to 12 November.
Much of the set comes from Jarak Qaribak, the album Greenwood and Tassa released together in 2023. Other songs come from Tassa's Al-Kuwaiti projects, built on music written and played by Daoud and Salleh Al-Kuwaiti, Tassa's grandfather and great-uncle. The paper says the two brothers were favourites of Faisal II, the last king of Iraq. On stage Greenwood and Tassa lead a band of 15 instrumentalists and two singers.
