The music charity Sound Roots, which runs the award with Matthew Bannister's podcast Folk on Foot, named the 13 jurors on 9 October. The award is for folk, roots and acoustic albums from Britain and Ireland.
Sound Roots introduces Selway as a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with four solo albums, who has written scores for radio, dance and film and has drummed for Neil Finn, The Unthanks and Kate Rusby.
Kellie While chairs the jury. A folk singer-songwriter, she is also the executive producer behind The Folk Show on BBC Radio 2. Mark Radcliffe, also of Radio 2, and Jude Rogers of The Guardian are on it too, and the record producer and author Joe Boyd advises.
Entries close on 30 October. Entertainment Focus says the award looks for cultural impact, artistic quality and originality, whatever a record has sold. The jury's shortlist of eight albums released this year is due in November, and Folk on Foot gives each one an episode in early January. The winner is named on Tuesday 9 February next year at a livestreamed show at Rochdale Town Hall, where shortlisted artists play.
