Thom Yorke says his confidence crashed after Radiohead's 2025 tour

written up for the archive

Thom Yorke says his self-confidence collapsed once Radiohead's 2025 tour was over, and that it took him months to recover. He told Harry Styles about it in their conversation for Rolling Stone's Musicians on Musicians series, published on 8 October, when Styles asked how he feels about being celebrated for his past work. The shows themselves were a lot of fun while they lasted, but my response to it afterwards was to crash, like massively crash, in terms of self-confidence.1

What brought him round, two months after the tour, was starting work on his own record again. He has an odd relationship with being celebrated, he says, but has got used to that. Rolling Stone says the solo album is under way but has not been announced, and that the band play residencies in Australia and Japan in the middle of next year.

The magazine counts the 2025 concerts as Radiohead's first in seven years, and Yorke remembers the nerves at the first of them, in Madrid. The band walked through the audience to reach the stage, which they had never done before, then waited on stage together while they were made ready, the first time in years they had gone on as one. Everyone was telling everyone else to hold it together. I wanted to burst into tears, and we hadn't even played a note.1
