Song · The Bends era (1994–96)
India Rubber
Colin Greenwood called it a cross between Barry White and Dinosaur Jr.
mar 1995
chipping norton
They recorded it in March 1995 back at Chipping Norton, where they had made Pablo Honey, eating their meals under gold discs by the Bay City Rollers, Barbara Dickson and themselves. It is one of the odder things they put out in that period, built on Phil Selway's heavy drumming and a synthesiser groove, with little of the usual band arrangement on top. In his March tour diary, printed later that year in the fanzine Radiohead World Service, Colin Greenwood put the result somewhere between Barry White and Dinosaur Jr.
It went out on 15 May 1995 as the second track on the first CD of “Fake Plastic Trees”, one of two songs on that single nobody had heard. The band have played it live once, in the encore at Le Spectrum in Montreal on 13 December 1995, between “Subterranean Homesick Alien” and “Black Star”.
the end
a party
At the end somebody laughs, and the laughing fades into people talking over each other, the sound of a party. Asked who was laughing, Colin Greenwood blamed his brother.
it's jonny laughing at one of his own jokes as usual that he's nicked from stephen fry or some radio four light ents programme from the last thirty years.
