Radiohead finish their tour with James at the Newport Centre
written up for the archive October 2026
Radiohead play their last night as James's support act tonight at the Newport Centre, at the end of ten British dates that followed a November leg in Europe. Since Barcelona on 25 November the set has carried “(Nice Dream)” , a new song not yet released.
The tour followed straight on from their American dates with Belly and a few shows of their own in Canada. It opened at the Markthalle in Hamburg on 11 November, their first night in Germany, with a set of about 40 minutes built around Pablo Honey , opening with “The Bends” and closing with “Stop Whispering” .
On a free day, 20 November, they played a show of their own at the Salle des Fêtes du Lignon in Vernier, near Geneva, their first in Switzerland. It went out on FM radio , and Thom Yorke dedicated “Pop Is Dead” to Phil Collins with an insult. In France the band also appeared on Canal+'s Nulle Part Ailleurs the day after the Casino de Paris. The Sala Zeleste in Barcelona was their first night in Spain, and two nights later they reached Portugal, where their records get plenty of airplay and the James crowds gave them a wild welcome.
The British leg, which Parlophone advertised in September , opened at Glasgow's Barrowlands on 1 December and took in Brixton Academy in London on the 9th. Before Glasgow, Yorke told the Glasgow University Guardian that he was worn out and that Radiohead never want to support anyone again.
