Radiohead end their spring tour with their first shows in Ireland
Radiohead's spring tour ended in Ireland, at the Rock Garden in Dublin on 14 May and Conor Hall in Belfast the next night, the band's first shows there. It had opened at the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton on 30 April, with Strangelove and Superstar in support. The band's first newsletter had named only Strangelove; by the time the adverts ran, Superstar had joined the bill.
At King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, Thom Yorke introduced “The Bends”, still a new song, as a song about knowing who the real friends are, which in this case means not the record company, and then named EMI. The tape's uploader hears him in a talkative, angry mood, cursing the label several times during the set. The tape has almost all of the album and several B-sides, with “The Bends” in the first of two encores.
On 5 May the band flew to the Netherlands to play Bevrijdingspop, the Liberation Day festival in Haarlem, and on 10 May, the day of the Bristol University show, Parlophone released “Pop Is Dead”, the new single that is not on the album. Two nights later the London show at ULU in Malet Street drew a capacity crowd.
