Grant Gee sits out the London premiere of his Radiohead film
Meeting People Is Easy, Grant Gee's film of Radiohead touring in the year after OK Computer, had its premiere at the Metro cinema in London's West End last night. It ends with Thom Yorke saying he is bored of OK Computer, that fame is “bollocks”, and that everything since the band played Glastonbury in 1997 has been a disappointment.
Gee calls it a film put together of a thousand bits
1, shot on treated stocks of several kinds. Among the bits are new songs still being worked out, Yorke plainly bored at an American show while the crowd sing “Creep”, and Colin Greenwood, talking to Ted Kessler of NME, owning up awkwardly that fame has got to him.
Gee says he hardly watches music television. The only rock films he likes are Don't Look Back, on Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones' unreleased Cocksucker Blues and R.E.M.'s Tourfilm.
He was at the Metro for the premiere but did not watch the screening. The last time I went to a premiere of mine I felt so sick I almost passed out.
