Thirteen On a Friday recordings turn up online
About an album's worth of songs recorded when Radiohead were still On a Friday has surfaced online. One of the 13, “Without You”, is an early version of “Maquiladora”, the B-side on the “High and Dry”/“Planet Telex” single of February 1995, NME.com reports. Two more, “Jerusalem” and “Everybody Lies Through Their Teeth”, are songs Thom Yorke named as being about Oxford in his 1991 interview with Curfew.
The recordings are thought to come from sessions at Courtyard Studio, near Oxford, in 1991 or perhaps 1990, before the band signed to EMI. Chris Hufford and Bryce Edge ran Courtyard, and became On a Friday's managers after hearing one of their tapes in 1991; the Curfew interview describes a five-song session there with Hufford.
The files are being passed round through At Ease, the fan site. NME has heard some of the songs and cannot say that all of them are genuine. The ones it has heard are uneven, and range even more widely in style.
