Colin Greenwood says Thom Yorke deploys him to do the talking

Colin Greenwood spoke to the Vancouver Sun by phone from Boston, where the North American tour began; it reaches Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver on Saturday. Thom Yorke once called him the band's secret weapon, the member who will talk to anyone at any hour, and Colin finds that not very flattering.

When Thom wants to get off and have an early night and doesn't want to talk with anyone, then he deploys me.

A literature graduate with a famous appetite, he was glad to talk about the lobster he had just eaten with his brother and much less keen to talk about Radiohead.

He talked about the band's effort to keep this tour out of venues owned by Clear Channel, the concert giant. Colin calls it a balance: bringing the music to the people who want to hear it without shutting out audiences or places, while working as independently as they can.
