Jonny Greenwood says all of Radiohead helped make Bodysong

written up for the archive

Jonny Greenwood tells NME.COM that the whole of Radiohead had a hand in Bodysong, his first solo record. Each member was given a two-CD version of the score and helped him cut it to half the length, and Thom Yorke suggested titles. Colin Greenwood, who Jonny says is just as bad at taking time off, came in to help with the programming, played bass on one piece and tied the record together.

The score is wordless, written for Simon Pummell's film Bodysong, a life told through footage shot around the world over the past 100 years, which opens in cinemas on 5 December.

You realise quite quickly how good it is to be in a group,

Jonny says. He enjoyed making it and never felt alone, but would only do it again if everyone else wanted to stop, and he will never leave the band for good to work on his own.

I've got no illusions that it's clear to me that Radiohead's always going to be at least five times better because there's five of us.
