Two songs on trial: The Strokes try out Nigel Godrich

written up for the archive

Two songs will decide it. The Strokes have settled on Nigel Godrich, the producer who has worked with Radiohead and with Beck, for the follow-up to Is This It, according to Drowned In Sound, but the arrangement is a trial. Godrich will cut two tracks first. If they come out right he carries on; if not, the band will start the album again from scratch.

The record has no title yet. The people around the band are aiming to have it out at the end of August or in September, and Drowned In Sound expect it to draw on songs the band played on their last tour. Four are named as likely: “You Talk Way Too Much”, “The Way It Is”, “Meet Me In The Bathroom” and “I Can't Win”.

Drowned In Sound also recall the band saying that commercial success would not change the way they record. The site calls the pairing hard to predict and promises further news.
