Radiohead skip the Q Awards and win Best Act in the World Today

first posted on Treefingers by Miro, Amie · rewritten for the archive

Radiohead won Best Act in the World Today at the Q Awards on 2 October, and were not at the Park Lane Hotel in London to collect it. In their place the ceremony showed a silent film, with captions along the bottom of the screen mocking the magazine and a last line that read “Radiohead aren't talking to Q”. The magazine's review of Hail to the Thief had called them miserable.

It is the band's third win in a row in the category, after 2001 and 2002. Hail to the Thief lost Best Album to Blur's Think Tank, but Nigel Godrich won Best Producer for it, as he had for Amnesiac in 2001.

Asked on the band's message board the next night what the film had said, Jonny Greenwood answered that it would be interesting to know. well, they wrote it not us. we didn't send anything this time2
