Radiohead open at Shepherd's Bush Empire with “There There”

written up for the archive

Radiohead began the first of two nights at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London on Saturday 24 May with “There There”, two days before it comes out as a single. It was their first London concert since three nights in a tent in Victoria Park in September 2000, and the two Shepherd's Bush shows close their May run of small halls in Ireland and Britain.

Five of the 23 songs did not come back the next night: “Morning Bell”, “Scatterbrain” and “Climbing Up the Walls” from the main set, and “Fake Plastic Trees” and “How to Disappear Completely”, the whole of the second encore.

The Empire holds about 2,500, a small room for a band booked into arenas this autumn. Touts outside were asking up to £100 a ticket, NME reported, and fans coming out said they would not have missed it for any money.

Setlist, Shepherd's Bush Empire, 24 May 2003
