Thom Yorke dedicates “Go to Sleep” in Salt Lake City

first posted on Treefingers by Amie, Miro · rewritten for the archive

Radiohead played the USANA Amphitheatre in West Valley City, outside Salt Lake City, on Thursday 28 August, and in the first encore Thom Yorke dedicated “Go to Sleep”, the new single, to people who think they can sleepwalk their way through life and be OK1.

They closed with “Everything in Its Right Place”, which has ended every show of the leg since Montreal on 15 August. The first encore began with a tease of “A Punchup at a Wedding” before “Pyramid Song”.

Sam Vicchrilli, reviewing the night for The Salt Lake Tribune, took it as a lesson in playing computer-heavy songs live. Jonny Greenwood moved between guitar on “Lucky”, extra drums on “There There” and a panel of buttons and switches for “Backdrifts” and “The Gloaming”, and on “Where I End and You Begin” Yorke took the lead guitar while Greenwood worked the computer.

Yorke delivered “A Wolf at the Door” as a rap, with hand gestures and robotic moves, and the main set ended with him and Ed O'Brien trading the closing refrain of “Sit Down. Stand Up.”
