Bono defends Radiohead's retreat from pop radio
first posted on Treefingers by Miro · rewritten for the archive
Bono has stood up for Radiohead in Hot Press, after the Irish magazine's interviewer told him he dislikes the band partly because Thom Yorke talks about being anti-corporate while EMI charges £20 for their CD.
Bono says he mourns the lack of Radiohead on pop radio, and longs to hear Yorke's voice up against the likes of Blue. But he cannot blame them for stepping back from all the work and negotiation that pop demands, since a band sometimes wants to make a more private record of its life. As far as he is concerned, they can do what they like.
If they had a cellist, I'd carry the cello on my back.
