Thom Yorke covered in chocolate for Oxfam's Make Trade Fair
first posted on Treefingers by Miro · rewritten for the archive
Thom Yorke is covered in chocolate in Oxfam's new “Ever Felt Dumped On?” posters for its Make Trade Fair campaign. NME has the pictures first, in its issue out on 24 November.
Each sitter is drenched in a farm product to stand for the farmers in poorer countries who are “dumped on” by rich ones. The campaign wants to change the trade rules that, it says, keep billions of people from working their way out of poverty. Chris Martin of Coldplay is covered in rice and Michael Stipe of R.E.M. drowned in milk.
Every picture carries a few lines from its sitter. Yorke accuses rich governments of putting up trade barriers against poor countries and then dumping on them “whilst feigning concern”.
As it melts in your mouth, how sweet does your chocolate taste, now you know the suffering that it took to get to you?
