Radiohead sign with ATO to release In Rainbows in America
Radiohead have agreed a deal with ATO Records Group to release In Rainbows on CD in the United States, on an imprint of their own called TBD Records. We ran into trouble in trying to clear all previously discussed potential label names
3, a spokesperson said, asked what TBD meant.
Billboard gives the American release as 1 January 2008, the day after XL puts the CD out in Britain and everywhere else outside North America. NME also says 1 January; other reports give 2 January.
XL has now released the cover of the CD edition, which fronts the booklet. The artwork is by Stanley Donwood. He told NME in October that he made it by photographic etching, submerging prints in acid over about ten months.
Uncut describes ATO as the label Dave Matthews founded, distributed through SonyBMG. Before any deal was made public, ATO had already spent a couple of weeks working “Bodysnatchers” and “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” to American radio. “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” follows as a single on 14 January. No longer-term relationship with ATO has been announced. Part of its pull was Phil Costello, who was senior vice-president of promotion and marketing at Capitol and now works at ATO.
