Radiohead add 16 August dates, from Lollapalooza to Santa Barbara

Radiohead have announced the second North American leg of the In Rainbows tour: 16 shows in the US and Canada from 1 to 28 August, opening at Lollapalooza and closing at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Grizzly Bear open six shows from 3 to 15 August, and Liars, already booked for May, take over from 19 August to the end. Tickets for the festivals go on sale on 9 April, and for the band's own shows on the 12th, according to Billboard.

Four of the dates are at three festivals, with no support named: Lollapalooza in Chicago's Grant Park, where Radiohead's headline slot was announced this morning; two nights at All Points West in Jersey City; and Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The cities are the 14 named in February for the second half of the tour, with Cleveland and Indianapolis played at Cuyahoga Falls and Noblesville.

Los Angeles, left out of the May run, gets two nights at the Hollywood Bowl. They fall on a Sunday and a Monday, which Randall Roberts of LA Weekly finds an odd pair to choose.

Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear told Drowned In Sound that the offer came out of the blue, and that he had no say in how the cities were divided between the two openers. I have no idea how it was decided. It's all a very secret protected world that I'm not privy to.⁶ His favourite Radiohead songs are “Fake Plastic Trees”, “Pyramid Song” and “Videotape”. Basically there are two artists I've always dreamed about touring with. Radiohead and Bjork.⁶
