Jonny Greenwood's There Will Be Blood score gets a Grammy nomination

written up for the archive

Jonny Greenwood's score for Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood is one of five albums nominated for Best Score Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media at the 51st Grammy Awards. The nominations were announced on 3 December, the day Radiohead picked up five for In Rainbows.

Greenwood is up against four other film scores, among them The Dark Knight and WALL-E. The ceremony is at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 8 February.

The Academy Awards would not consider it. In January the film academy's music branch ruled the score ineligible, because most of the music heard in the film had not been written for it. A quarter of an hour of it comes from Greenwood's earlier piece Popcorn Superhet Receiver.
