Phil Selway is making a solo album, and singing on it

written up for the archive

Phil Selway is making his first solo album, and he sings on it himself. NME reports that he is recording it, still without a title, at Radiohead's studio in Oxfordshire. Glenn Kotche and Pat Sansone of Wilco, the multi-instrumentalist Lisa Germano and the bassist Sebastian Steinberg are playing. No release date has been set.

All four are his bandmates in Neil Finn's 7 Worlds Collide. Germano and Steinberg played in it with him in 2001, and Kotche and Sansone joined for the Oxfam album made in Auckland over the new year. At the first of the Auckland shows, on 5 January, Selway sat alone with a guitar and sang a song of his own, “The Family Madness”. In August he sang his two songs from the Oxfam record, “The Witching Hour” and “The Ties That Bind Us”, at Dingwalls in London. When talk of a solo album followed, SPIN found it was news to Radiohead's publicists.
