Radiohead play to 15,500 at Montreal's Bell Centre

written up for the archive

Radiohead played the Bell Centre in Montreal on Friday 15 June, and Thom Yorke's greeting, after “Bloom” and “There There”, was Nice to see you1.

Alain Brunet, reviewing for La Presse, counted 15,500 people and recalled the band's last Montreal show, outdoors at Parc Jean-Drapeau four years earlier. He rated “Nude” the simplest and most moving song of the night. He noted long instrumental stretches in “Morning Mr Magpie” and “The Gloaming”, and took “Separator” as a sign that the King of Limbs songs had grown on stage since the doubts critics raised early in the tour. “Climbing Up the Walls” came with a sound collage taken from local radio. Brunet called the band a beacon of creation in rock.

Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette went because his 15-year-old daughter wanted to. By “There There” and Yorke's dancing he was won over, and he rated the visuals among the best he had seen.
