Radiohead close Camden with a “True Love Waits” intro

written up for the archive

Radiohead's last song at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey, on Wednesday 13 June was “Everything In Its Right Place”, and it began with a passage of “True Love Waits”. “True Love Waits” has so far been released only as a live recording, on I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings in 2001.

The set leaned on the two newest records, with seven songs from The King of Limbs and five from In Rainbows, and had nothing from Pablo Honey or The Bends. One of its songs, “Identikit”, is still unreleased.

Matthew Berlyant, reviewing the night for The Big Takeover, had seen Radiohead at the same amphitheatre on 12 August 2008 and found them tentative then, with people in the crowd coming and going all through the set. This time they were tight and powerful, he wrote, the band he remembered from the Amnesiac tour of 2001 and the Hail to the Thief tour of 2003.

He rated “Lotus Flower” and “Little by Little” above their more electronic studio versions, and picked out a slightly rearranged “Paranoid Android” and a piano-led “Like Spinning Plates” close to the one on I Might Be Wrong.
