Atoms for Peace play three sold-out nights at the Roundhouse
Atoms for Peace, the band Thom Yorke fronts with Nigel Godrich on keyboards, played three sold-out nights at the Roundhouse in Camden from Wednesday 24 to Friday 26 July, which Uncut reported as their first shows in the UK. On the first night Flea took the spoken passage in “Rabbit In Your Headlights”, the song Yorke made with UNKLE in 1998, whose spoken parts on the record are samples from the film Jacob's Ladder. Godrich had posted a clip of the band rehearsing it on 3 June.
That first night ran to 16 songs in about 90 minutes, two encores included, and every song but “Rabbit In Your Headlights” came from the band's album Amok, Yorke's 2006 solo album The Eraser and his 2009 double A-side “Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses” and “The Hollow Earth”. Yorke moved to the piano for “Ingenue”, and NME spotted PJ Harvey in the crowd. He said next to nothing all night until he signed off. Well I don't know about you guys, but we've had a wicked night so thanks very much for coming

DIY saw Flea come on in a cape. On the second night “Paperbag Writer”, the B-side of Radiohead's 2003 single “There There”, was one of the last three songs, and Chal Ravens, reviewing that night for Fact, calls it a stuttering funk in Kraftwerk's debt. She also calls a £49.50 ticket, nearer £55 with fees, poor value for a show the band enjoyed more than the crowd did.
The second and third nights went out on soundhalo, a new app, which sold multi-camera video and sound of each song minutes after it was played, at 99p a song or £9.99 for the whole show. It was the app's biggest broadcast yet.
Across the road, upstairs at The Enterprise pub, the artist Stanley Donwood and XL Recordings built the AMOK Drawing Room, papered in black-and-white linocuts and pasted images and open from noon to 8pm from 24 to 27 July. It was a record shop that sold one record, Amok, on LP or as a set of single-sided 12-inches with one track on each, and everything in the room was for sale, down to the chaise longue.
