Radiohead's Irving Plaza guest list from 1997 turns up online
The guest list for Radiohead's show at Irving Plaza in New York on 9 June 1997, a week before OK Computer came out in Britain, has turned up online this week, posted by The Fader on its Tumblr. U2 and their manager Paul McGuinness are down for 18 guests, and Marilyn Manson for himself plus seven VIPs at the front door.
Madonna is on it with her manager Guy Oseary, and so are Brad Pitt plus one, Courtney Love, Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, the Beastie Boys and Rick Rubin. Spin says members of Blur and Oasis watched the show. One entry, “Russell Simmins +1 VIP”, could be the hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons or Russell Simins, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's drummer.
The night opened with “Fitter Happier” on tape running into “Lucky”, and ended, after a second encore that began with a broken-off “Thinking About You”, on “Black Star”. Michael Nelson of Stereogum was in the room, saw Liam and Noel Gallagher there, and remembers it as a chaotic night at which the band were superb.
