Thom Yorke's “Villain” premieres at rag & bone's New York show
The New York label rag & bone showed its spring/summer 2016 women's collection at St. Ann's Warehouse in Dumbo, Brooklyn, on the evening of Monday 14 September, to “Villain”, an eight-minute piece by Thom Yorke. Twelve singers from the Brooklyn Youth Chorus sang it live from behind a sheer curtain. By 16 September the recording was streaming online.
Yorke wrote for the label's September 2011 show, whose pieces “Twist” and “Stuck Together” surfaced in January 2012. He and Nigel Godrich scored its February 2013 show.
He produced “Villain” and plays the piano on it, under the chorus's wordless parts. It opens on piano and those young voices, and by its last minutes has moved towards minimal electronic dance music.
