Philip Selway says Radiohead mean to finish their record this autumn
Radiohead are back at work and want the new record finished this autumn, Philip Selway has told the Press Association. We've got quite a busy autumn coming up. We want to finish a record and that's where we're at. We're just launching ourselves into it
1 In June he said the work had come in fits and starts, with a full schedule to follow in September.
The first step after time apart, he tells Mancunian Matters, is learning what each of them has been listening to and what they want to try. When you've spent time apart, the initial thing is finding your way back around each other
4 Once the Radiohead record is done, he has material for another solo album and hopes to get back to it in the next year or so.
Today Robert Ziegler, who worked with Radiohead on The King of Limbs in 2011, put pictures of the band at work in a studio on Twitter, and deleted them soon after. DIY says they show the band with a full string orchestra.
Selway was also asked about the punter who put £15,000 on Radiohead recording the theme for the Bond film Spectre, the bet that made William Hill stop taking money on the theme in July. He laughed. All I can say is that I think the money could have been better spent elsewhere
4 A new challenge, he allowed, is always good for the band musically.
This afternoon he is talking books and music with New Order's Stephen Morris at Manchester Central Library, where Guy Garvey's 6 Music show goes out live. Selway is leaving the library a drum kit for visitors to play, in memory of Scott Johnson, Radiohead's drum technician, who was killed when the stage collapsed before the band's Toronto show three years ago. It is part of a project to keep Johnson's memory alive. Scott touched many, many people's lives and the memorial fund set up by his family, friends and bands has provided that focus.
