Jonny Greenwood takes Junun to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

written up for the archive

Junun played “Junun”, the title track of their 2015 album, on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday 9 July, with Jonny Greenwood on bass and the horns of the Rajasthan Express leading the song. It was the night before the first of Radiohead's four shows at Madison Square Garden. Nonesuch has the performance online. Paste counts it as the group's first time on American late-night television.

Junun are Greenwood, the Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur and the Rajasthan Express, musicians from Rajasthan. Their album came out on Nonesuch, and Paul Thomas Anderson filmed its recording for a documentary also called Junun.

Greenwood is opening for himself this summer. Junun were named on 25 June as Radiohead's special guests for the North American leg, which began in Chicago on 6 July. They had supported the band before, on European dates in 2017 and in South America in April, where Greenwood played bass with them in Bogotá. Every night of the leg he plays twice, usually on bass with Junun and then on guitar with Radiohead.
