Jonny Greenwood's “Licorice Pizza” is out on the film's soundtrack
The soundtrack to Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza is out today on Republic Records, with a new Jonny Greenwood instrumental named after the film. Greenwood's “Licorice Pizza”, produced by Graeme Stewart, is track 16 of 20 and the only new music on the album; the rest are period records, from Nina Simone's “July Tree” to David Bowie's “Life on Mars?”. He also composed the film's score. CD and vinyl follow on 10 December.
The film opens today in a handful of US cinemas, ahead of its wide release on 25 December. It is set in the San Fernando Valley in 1973 and stars Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim, in her first film role.
Greenwood's Spencer score came out on Mercury KX on 12 November, and The Power of the Dog on Lakeshore five days later. Licorice Pizza is his fifth film with Anderson, after There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice and Phantom Thread.
