Jonny Greenwood scores Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog

written up for the archive

Jonny Greenwood has written the score for Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog, which Film at Lincoln Center today named the Centerpiece of the 59th New York Film Festival. The announcement is the first public word of his part in the film. He is also scoring Pablo Larraín's Spencer, with Kristen Stewart, announced in January.

Campion wrote and directed the film from Thomas Savage's 1967 novel, set on a Montana cattle ranch in the 1920s. Benedict Cumberbatch plays a bullying rancher, with Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

The festival's notice singles out the music, calling his score mercurial and destabilising.
