Radiohead put out Thom Yorke's 2005 From the Basement set
Radiohead have put Thom Yorke's solo set from the pilot of From the Basement, taped in 2005, on their YouTube channel, in the same week as their second run of streamed archive concerts. From the Basement is Nigel Godrich's series of bands filmed playing in a studio, with no host and no audience. Pitchfork reports that Godrich began putting its old films on the series' YouTube page in 2020.
Yorke is alone at the piano for just under 15 minutes and three songs, “Videotape”, “Down Is the New Up” and “Last Flowers”, none of them out in 2005. “Videotape” later closed In Rainbows, and the other two are on its second disc. The taping also came before the band had played the first two live; “Videotape” was first heard at the Hammersmith Apollo in May 2006, and “Down Is the New Up” in Toronto that June.
When the first episode came out as a download in December 2006, Yorke opened it with “Videotape” and “Down Is the New Up” only. “Last Flowers”, from the same taping, has not been seen until now.
